Winter is for hibernation.

There I said it. Out loud. Yes, this Christmas obsessed, extroverted, wants to do all-the-things, enthusiastic woman just said that.

I know that if I’m feeling the need to withdraw into my home, the need to do less, the need to slow down, then my friends (that’s all of you) who are even less wired for this season or this pace, are truly weary.

I think the holidays sometimes feel like this whirlwind of activity and expectations coming at us from all sides and like we get sucked into this vortex of spinning energy where time seems to go even faster than normal which is already warp speed. Then we add the pressure to reflect on our entire year, find “our word” for 2025, set new goals, get focused – and my biz owner friends know the added pressure of financial reports, annual planning with your team, and, and, and – the list goes on. So let’s all ask ourselves some key questions:

* What matters most to you right now?

* What things must absolutely be done?

* How do you want to feel December 26th? January 2nd?

* What’s driving my choices and actions?

Our dog had surgery and Trevor has had some volleyball tournaments. Our dogs and kids are obviously at the core of our family so things shift around that. I’m choosing to treat a lot more clients. These choices are shifting our capacity this season. I could be annoyed or frustrated by that or I can appreciate the focus, enjoy the things that truly matter and make sure I find time for the things I truly don’t want to give up this season (like 1 evening out looking at lights or watching The Grinch).

Maybe this graphic below will help you feel your soul again for a moment, the core of who you are and help you answer the above questions (and guys it applies to you too). The days are shorter this time of year for a reason.

I love the encouragement in this graphic but I also see so many of us tired. So many commented on my post about Amazon boxes in the closet, laundry everywhere etc and sometimes that’s just part of life and part of the holidays. But maybe you need to hear today that you can just put it down. Just don’t do it, whatever IT is. Pause long enough to look at whose expectations you’re responding to. There’s very little chance that all you’re carrying is truly critical. If it is, carry on warrior. Sometimes being strong isn’t serving us or our tribe very well. We can indeed do hard things, but don’t do them because of a date on the calendar. Don’t think anything magically changes as the clock strikes midnight December 31st. Settle in for some time to hibernate, find true rest and then ask yourself about the life you want to create. Get with your key people and have a real conversation about this season – it’s not too late! And if it doesn’t happen until January 23rd or even March, that’s ok. And if you just can’t find any shine to shine, call me. I’ll find your crown and a polishing cloth! Here’s to a peaceful Christmas and a joy-filled New Year.
Much love,

Amy and the Moment of Truth team
