Hey all you beautiful souls,

Emily here, and I hope you’re having a great day so far!

I just wanted to pop in and talk about systemic inflammation in our bodies, and some ways to combat that. First, I want to distinguish the difference between “good” and “bad” inflammation. Inflammation in general is a response by our immune system to put our body in defense mode. An example of the “good” inflammation would be our ankle swelling after an ankle sprain, which helps bring immune system cells to the area to repair the injury. This is a localized inflammatory response. An example of the “bad” inflammation would be chronic stress causing a whole-body inflammatory response (aka systemic inflammation) that lasts for a long time.

So how can we stop chronic inflammation? Well…lifestyle habits are HUGE. Your body cannot get out of fight, flight, or freeze mode if we constantly bombard it with stress.

Here are some of my favorite tips to get your body from fight, flight, or freeze and back into parasympathetic mode (which decreases systemic inflammation):

  • Hum and Swallow
  • Diaphragmatic breathing (think of taking big 360 degree breaths) for 3-5 minutes
  • Daily walks after meals for 10-15 mins
  • Getting 30 minutes – 1 hour of sun time daily
  • Eating protein, carb, and fat every few hours to keep cortisol levels steady
  • No caffeine on an empty stomach
  • Sleeping 8-9 hours a night (no phones while you’re in bed!!)

Hope you enjoy all of these recommendations! Let me know if you need any more ideas for products, or have questions
