Blocks to intimacy often start just as much in the brain as they do in the bedroom. |
Sexual intimacy often starts in the brain because, let’s face it, your gray matter is the ultimate aphrodisiac. The brain is where attraction sparks, fantasies form, and connection blooms. It’s the DJ of desire, spinning tracks of oxytocin, dopamine, and serotonin that get you in the mood long before the lights dim.
Think of it this way:
- Seduction doesn’t begin with lingerie.
- It starts with words, glances, and shared laughter, inside jokes.
- The brain thrives on anticipation and curiosity—it’s wired to love the “what if” just as much as the “right now.”
- That witty text, that deep conversation, or even that inside joke—it’s all foreplay for your most powerful sexual organ.
This is why it can be so helpful to know each other’s love languages – so those connections can start long before bedtime. Click HERE to find out yours now then share it with your partner!
Now let’s talk about your actual body! Our anatomy is actually far more similar than different.

Now let’s discuss some of the process we go through with arousal and orgasm. Desire – the feeling of wanting sex and/or intimacy Excitement – increased blood flow into the erectile cylinders of the penis or into the bulbs of the clitoris Plateau – penis becomes hard. Clitoris swells a bit with more tissue emerging. Orgasm – stimulation of the glans of the penis creates muscular contractions of the bulbocavernosus (BC) and ischiocavernosus (IC) muscles surrounding the penis. Stimulation of the clitoris creates swelling, rhythmic contraction of the pubococcygeus contributing to the sensation of tightening and release. Resolution – loss of the erection and return to pre-excitement blood flow and relaxation of the muscles. So we’ve covered our brains – and our bodies.
