Especially in the medical world, we can think of things in black and white, this or that, good or bad. We at Moment of Truth want to empower you to choose based on YOUR NEEDS, YOUR FUNCTION, and YOUR PRIORITIES.
Mammograms and Thermography Functional Imaging serve different purposes, but highlighting the differences is important for us to make an informed decision about what is best for our bodies.
Mammogram ~ Structural Imaging
“What does the tissue look like?”
What it does:
Uses low-dose X-ray to look at existing structures
Detects:
Tumors
Calcifications
Tissue distortions
What it does NOT do:
It is NOT preventative
Does NOT tell you why tissue changed
Does NOT track inflammation or early physiological shifts
Downsides:
Tumors can be masked by dense tissue
Some findings may never become symptomatic but are often treated extensive treatment and interventions anyway
Can be painful and anxiety inducing, decreasing mind-body connection and increase fear based relationship with body
Thermography ~ Functional Imaging
“What is the body doing?”
What it does:
Uses infrared to detect heat + blood flow patterns
Can show inflammatory markers before structural changes occur
Not limited to breasts
Non-invasive, no compression, no exposure
Can be repeated frequently to track changes over time
Reflects:
•Inflammation
•Hormone changes
•Increased blood flow
•Symmetry Changes
•Heat Patterns
•Nervous system / metabolic shifts
What it does NOT do:
It does NOT diagnose cancer as it cannot see tumors directly
It is NOT a replacement for structural imaging, you may still need a mammogram, ultrasound, or MRI if something is suspicious
Highly dependent on environment, technician, and protocol matter for proper interpretation and consistency
Downsides:
More frequent visits
Usually not covered by insurance
Higher cost
The Bigger Truth
Women have largely been given ONE screening tool and told it’s “enough”, but our bodies are more complex than structure alone.
Your body doesn’t go from “perfectly healthy” to “tumor” overnight.
There are patterns. Signals. Shifts.
The problem? Most of our system is only set up to catch it once it’s already there.
We deserve more than that.
We deserve awareness before the diagnosis.
A More Complete Approach
Instead of “Mammogram OR Thermography”
Shift to “What information does each tool give me about my body?”
Mammogram → structure
Thermography → function
Your work → tissue + nervous system + lived experience
